AFAID25 Concludes with the Enchanting Symphony of Studio Ghibli

A Grand Celebration of Studio Ghibli with Original Vocals and the Tokyo Asia Orchestra


Jakarta, Monday, June 9, 2025 – On Sunday night [June 8], the main stage of Anime Festival Asia Indonesia (AFAID25) at the Jakarta Convention Center resonated with the beauty of classical music from Studio Ghibli’s legendary films in a stunning performance titled “The Music of Studio Ghibli – Original Singers Symphony.” This special concert captivated thousands of Studio Ghibli fans of all ages. The event was organized by SOZO in collaboration with PK Entertainment.

Yoshikazu Mera opened the concert with an orchestral arrangement from Princess Mononoke. Since beginning his career in the 1990s, Mera has been known for his classical vocal interpretations, and in this performance, he delivered Ghibli themes with exceptional vocal technique.




Sumi Shimamoto then took the stage, performing music from Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind, My Neighbor Totoro, The Castle of Cagliostro, and Princess Mononoke. She is well known as a voice actress and singer featured in six Ghibli films.

Azumi Inoue, who famously sang the theme songs for Castle in the Sky and My Neighbor Totoro, graced the stage with her gentle vocal timbre. She was also joined by her daughter, Yuyu, who debuted as a singer in 2012 on NHK.

The magical evening was elevated by the accompaniment of the Tokyo Asia Orchestra, conducted by Concert Master Takeshi Hashima. This professional orchestra delivered grand and heartfelt arrangements that brought Ghibli’s beloved songs to life in an impressive symphonic atmosphere.

The concert also served as powerful proof that the musical legacy of Studio Ghibli remains relevant and cherished across generations.
